Introduction
The Senior Operational IT Risk Manager (1st line) leads the governance of Aegon Asset Management’s Chief Technology Office’s (CTO) risk activity. They are recognised as an expert within CTO, Enterprise Risk Management, Global Controls Assurance & Reporting, Internal Audit and Group Technology Services (GTS).

The job in a nutshell
The Senior Operational Risk Manager (1st line) ensures AAM CTO remains in control by enabling effective Risk Management and a mature risk based Internal Control System. The Senior Operational Risk Manager (1st line) maintains oversight, facilitates Risk & Control 1st line of defence management within CTO and supports the CTO leadership team and their direct reports in taking responsibility for Risk and Controls. In addition, the 1st line Risk Manager will be highlighting risks and issues to the CTO Leadership team and stakeholders and supporting the risk owner in addressing these risks and issues.

The Senior Operational Risk Manager (1st line) collaborates, influences and problem solves with colleagues within CTO, Enterprise Risk Management, Global Controls Assurance & Reporting, Internal Audit and Group Technology Services (GTS). They can lead cross- functional project teams to achieve milestones and objectives leveraging their professional expertise to drive business results.

Your main responsibilities

  • Embed the CTO AAM risk and controls framework, collaborating and sharing best practice across Aegon Risk communities to ensure the CTO department operates in governance and as effective and efficient as possible.
  • Preparation and facilitation of the CTO Risk Control Committee with Senior Colleagues including Board members ensuring transparent oversight and insight of reporting and governance.
  • Represent AAM CTO 1st line risk management in appropriate governance forums, typically control committees, ensuring promotion of the AAM risk culture, and focus on emerging risks and risk/control maintenance within CTO.
  • Develop a deep understanding of activity within the business areas you oversee to support effective business partnering, oversight and challenge of Risk Control Self Assessments, and support of 2nd line risk management.
  • Educate, upskill, and train CTO colleagues in the CTO AAM risk and controls framework to ensure all colleagues know the role they play and are set up for success.
  • Assist with control rationalization initiatives to reduce duplication and identify and document “key controls” to support strategic risk and ensure controls are efficient and effective.
  • A subject matter expert providing guidance and process coaching to CTO colleagues to ensure appropriate and effective collaboration between Business Unit and Risk and Audit departments.
  • Document processes and review for continued suitability. Make recommendations for process improvements.

Besides that, you have:

  • Proven track record in IT Risk Management and or Audit within Financial Services (10+ years)
  • An ability to identify and assess IT risk issues and guide appropriate actions to reduce, mitigate or eliminate IT risks.
  • Ability to execute multiple initiatives proactively and efficiently, highlighting trends, risk and opportunities to senior-level management (including Board members) and key stakeholders – minimum 5 years’ experience.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills and experience
  • Accountability and ability to challenge in a constructive manner;
  • Fluent in English both written and verbally.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject (e.g., IT, Risk Management, Audit) – preferred not essential.
  • 10 years’ experience in Risk management or (IT) Audit
  • Risk Management and or Internal control experience ((i.e., IT Risk management, IT Audit, Operational Risk Management)
  • Understanding of IT Management and IT processes (e.g., ITIL)
  • Financial Services background preferred (min 5 years)
